Research Project: Biological Control of the Olive Fly in California Project Number: 0212-22000-024-13
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement

Start Date: Feb 01, 2013
End Date: Sep 30, 2014

Objective:
1) To mass-rear the olive fruit fly natural enemy P. lounsburyi to supply field releases in California. This will support an ongoing biological control program for olive fly in California.

Approach:
EBCL will subcontract for the mass-rearing operation. EBCL will supply the live olive fly parasitoids from our laboratory cultures, and will train the contractors as needed to ensure they have the information needed to successfully rear the natural enemies. The contractor will initially visit EBCL to learn how the parasitoids are reared, and EBCL staff will later visit their facility for additional training as needed. EBCL will assist the contractor in delivering the live parasitoids to California cooperators in large numbers for summer release into field sites.
