1a.Objectives (from AD-416):
To evaluate the Fibrotest in comparison to the corresponding results from High Voulme Instrument (HVI), Advanced Fiber Information System (AFIS) and Stelometer, and to determine the potential of acquiring the Lower Half Mean Length (LHML) from the Fibrotest results
1b.Approach (from AD-416):
To evaluate the Fibrotest by comparing the results with corresponding values from the HVI and AFIS instruments, and develop method to obtain LHML from the length distribution data from the Fibrotest.
A selection of cottons, including two sets of USDA American Markerting Service (AMS) strength and length cottons and two sets of micronaire cottons, as well as three International Calibration Cottons, have been tested by the Fibrotest, High Volume Instrument (HVI), and Advanced Fiber Information System (AFIS). The data has been used to carry out comparative studies.
ARS researchers are indentifying the impacts from different operators on measurement results. Based on experimental data, effects from operators on fiber length, strength, and linear density values measured by Fibrotest have been investigated. It is found that there were operator effects on length and strength measurements. Statistical analysis of the data is being carried out.
