Research Project: MUTATIONAL ANALYSIS OF STREPTOMYCES GENES WITH POTENTIAL ROLES IN PLANT PATHOGENICITY

Location: Genetic Improvement of Fruits and Vegetables

Project Number: 1245-21220-251-07
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 18, 2012
End Date: Sep 30, 2014

Objective:
The objectives are to develop mutants of Streptomyces that are deficient in expression of three family-12 endoglucanases. Develop mutants of additional pathogenicity-related genes and to train scientists in Streptomyces mutagenesis.

Approach:
Individual genes or gene fragments will be cloned and transferred to appropriate vectors for use in mutagenesis experiments. Tests will be conducted to determine the effect of mutagenesis on development of Streptomyces-induced common scab disease.
