Objective:
To cooperatively engage in the pursuit of breeding for enhanced abiotic stress tolerance in sorghum, which encompasses (but is not limited to) controlled environment and field screening of select sorghum germplasm in spring trials and statistical analysis and summarization of results.

Approach:
1. Perform controlled environment screening for early season cold tolerance on select 60 Kaoliang lines (Chinese sorghum landraces). Confirm laboratory results on 60 Kaoliang lines with field evaluation through early season planting in Spring 2013 (April or May planting) in Ames, Iowa. 2. Conduct early season planting and controlled screening for various genetic stocks/lines (RILs, germplasm/landraces, select hybrids and checks in replicated trials) from the cold tolerance enhancement project developed at USDA-ARS Lubbock, TX, and Kansas State University. 3. Perform statistical analysis and documentation (in the form of graphs, photos, etc.) of results. 4. Provide the ARS coordinator with data, documentation (photographs or graphs),and report from the endeavors for use in preparation of reports to funding agency.
