Objective:
Establish and maintain stem rust sentinel plots in Texas for Ug99 surveillance in the United States.

Approach:
Sentinel plots will be established in southern, central, and northern Texas at the following locations: Weslaco, Uvalde, and Chillicothe. Universal susceptible varieties and critical resistant lines will be planted and maintained during crop season. Rust infections will be recorded during growing season, and samples will be collected and sent to the USDA, ARS, Cereal Disease Laboratory for race analysis. Regular communications will be maintained via conference calls and e-mail.
