EVALUATION OF THE FIBROTEST AND DETERMINING THE POTENTIAL OF ACQUIRING LOWER HALF MEAN LENGTH (LHML) (CI PROJECT NO. 12-405)
Cotton Structure and Quality Research
2013 Annual Report
1a.Objectives (from AD-416):
To evaluate the Fibrotest in comparison to the corresponding results from High Voulme Instrument (HVI), Advanced Fiber Information System (AFIS) and Stelometer, and to determine the potential of acquiring the Lower Half Mean Length (LHML) from the Fibrotest results.
1b.Approach (from AD-416):
To evaluate the Fibrotest by comparing the results with corresponding values from the HVI and AFIS instruments, and develop method to obtain LHML from the length distribution data from the Fibrotest.
This is the final progress report for this project. The Fibrotest device and its software were installed, calibrated, and tested. Two technicians were trained to operate the instrument. A selection of cottons, including two sets of USDA Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) strength and length cottons and two sets of micronaire cottons, as well as three International Calibration Cottons, have been tested by the Fibrotest, High Volume Instrument (HVI), and Advanced Fiber Information System (AFIS). The data has been used to carry out comparative studies.
