Research Project: BREEDING SOYBEANS FOR IMPROVED OIL FUNCTIONALITY WITH =65% OLEIC ACID, =3% LINOLENIC ACID, AND =7% SATURATES AND HIGHER STEARIC ACID

Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research

Project Number: 6645-21220-012-61
Project Type: General Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Apr 01, 2012
End Date: Sep 30, 2013

Objective:
To develop maturity group III, IV and V soybeans high in oil with improved oil functionality with =65% oleic acid, =3% linolenic acid, and =7% saturates and ~20% stearic acid.

Approach:
Utilize classical and marker assisted breeding approaches to introduce novel genes from adapted lines and plant introductions to develop high yielding varieties with: = 19% oil and = 35% protein >65% oleic acid and/or <3 % linolenic acid <7% saturates ~20% stearic acid.
