Research Project:
BREEDING SOYBEANS WITH HIGH OLEIC ACID WITH BACK-CROSSING AND MARKER-ASSISTED SELECTION
Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research
Project Number: 6645-21220-012-60
Project Type:
General Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Apr 01, 2012
End Date: Mar 31, 2014
Objective:
1. Developed soybean lines with increased oil content and improved fatty acid composition while maintaining protein content at 41.5% (36% @ 13% moisture, i.e. 48% protein meal) and maintaining or increasing yield in MG VII and VIII soybeans.
2. Provide DNA marker assisted selection services for breeders in Arkansas, Georgia, Missouri, North Carolina and Tennessee at the University of Georgia Soybean Laboratory.
Approach:
Utilize classical methods of plant breeding and molecular tools available to accelerate the development of breeding material with higher oil concentration and improved fatty acid profiles.
