1a.Objectives (from AD-416):
Develop high yielding MG4-6 soybean lines with high oil and modified fatty acid profiles to meet the diverse market demands.
1b.Approach (from AD-416):
Use conventional breeding methodologies to develop and test breeding lines and populations with high yield potential, high oil, high oleic acid, high stearic acid, low linolenic acid, or low palmitic acid; combine high oleic and high stearic; combine high oleic, low linolenic, and low palmitic traits.
This project is related to Objective 2 of the in-house project: To discover novel genes/alleles in soybean for seed composition, determine their inheritance, determine genomic location, transfer to adapted germplasm, and release.
This new research project is a continuation of the research project 6645-21220-012-39S and has been active only since April 1, 2012. Yield trials of advanced lines with modified fatty acid composition have been planted. Two low linolenic lines are being increased and will be released as germplasm next year. Additional crosses have been made to incorporate the low linolenic and high oleic traits into advanced breeding lines. High oil lines are being evaluated in yield trials.
