Research Project: INDENTIFYING AND EVALUATING NEW SOURCES OF NATURAL VARIATION FOR FATTY ACID MODIFICATION GENES IN SOYBEAN

Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research

2012 Annual Report

1a.Objectives (from AD-416):
Assess sequence variation in genes regulating oil content and composition.

1b.Approach (from AD-416):
Sequence genes that may contribute to oil content or composition from plant introductions and cultivars. Identify natural variation in these genes.

3.Progress Report:

This project is related to Objective 2 of the in-house project: To discover novel genes/alleles in soybean for seed composition, determine their inheritance, determine genomic location, transfer to adapted germplasm, and release.

This new research project is a continuation of the research project 6645-21220-012-43S and has been active only since April 1, 2012. Sequence data of newly identified loci for modified fatty acid composition is being analyzed.
