1a.Objectives (from AD-416):
To improve the productivity of roller ginning plants by developing more effective methods of separating and reclaiming the carryover components of un-ginned seed cotton and cottonseed on a high-speed roller gin stand.
1b.Approach (from AD-416):
A unit-type reclaimer (as opposed to the current batch-type reclaimer) with alternative machine components will be tested to separate and reclaim the carryover on a high-speed roller gin stand. The first reclaimer will be attached to an individual high-speed roller gin stand. Depending on test results, unit reclaimer's application could later be expanded to battery applications.
This new project was approved on April 26, 2012. Progress to date has been limited to developing and drafting shop drawings to manufacture the first experimental prototype for testing. The actual build of the first prototype by LUMMUS CORPORATION has not yet started but should be completed early in FY2013. Once the prototype is built and installed in the ARS Roller Ginning Laboratory, its performance will be tested and compared to current reclaimer technology.
