Objective:
This laboratory collaboration will promote and facilitate cooperative research projects where the interests of the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Wisconsin Water Science Center(WI WSC) and Agriculture Research Service (ARS) coincide and support individual project needs of both agencies.
Approach:
The United States Geological Survey (USGS), Wisconsin Water Science Center (WI WSC), will provide personnel to conduct research in the following areas:
1) Automated water sampling at stream and river gauge stations in Wisconsin; 2) Oracle-based data management capabilities for waterborne pathogen and related water quality data; and 3) Hydrologic and hydrogeologic contaminant transport modeling.
The U.S. Dairy Forage Research Center Institute for Environmentally Integrated Dairy Management in Marshfield, WI, will provide office space, telephone (hard line) access, and facility custodial services for use by USGS on-site laboratory technicians and microbiologists. ARS staff will work with USGS scientists and researchers in the development and design of pathogen studies.
