Research Project: EVALUATING NEW WATERHYACINTH AND WATERLETTUCE BIOLOGICAL CONTROL AGENTS IN QUARANTINE

Objective:
1. Survey for natural enemies of waterhyacinth and waterlettuce in its native range. 2. Identify new agents, develop rearing techniques for colonization in the laboratory, and initiate preliminary host range studies. 3. Collect and ship approved agents to the Invasive Plant Research Laboratory.

Approach:
Conduct cooperative surveys in Brazil for potential biocontrol agents of targeted weeds, collect plant samples for DNA analysis, colonize and ship agents to USDA-ARS quarantine in Fort Lauderdale.
