Research Project: EVALUATION OF NOVEL ACARICIDE FOR CONTROLLING CATTLE FEVER TICKS, RHIPICEPHALUS (BOOPHILUS) MICROPLUS AND R(B) ANNULATUS, AND LONE STAR TICK

2012 Annual Report


1a.Objectives (from AD-416):
To evaluate the efficacy of a novel chemistry of pour-on acaricide for controlling cattle fever ticks, Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus and R. (B.) annulatus, and lone star ticks, Amblyomma americanum.


1b.Approach (from AD-416):
Conduct bioassays, specifically larval packet tests, to evaluate the potential of the novel pour-on acaricide formulation for controlling ticks on cattle and white-tailed deer.


3.Progress Report:

An acaricide with a novel chemistry has been provided by the cooperator company. Larval packet tests to evaluate the efficacy of various concentrations of the novel acaricide against lone star ticks are currently being conducted. If effective against lone star ticks, the acaricide will be evaluated against susceptible and resistant strains of cattle fever ticks in August-September 2012.
