Location: Northwest Watershed Management Research

2012 Annual Report

1a.Objectives (from AD-416):
Conduct, evaluate, and implement research and technology related to management and conservation of air and water resources, collect meterological and snowpack data, and make water supply forecasts in western river basins.

1b.Approach (from AD-416):
NRCS and ARS will jointly prepare an annual work plan listing research activities to be carried out that year.

3.Progress Report:

ARS and National Water and Climate Center (NRCS) developed this Memorandum of Understanding in support of ARS and NRCS snow and water supply forecasting research and management programs. The objective of the MOU were to jointly conduct, evaluate, and implement research and technology related to management and conservation of air and water resources, collect meteorological and snowpack data, and make water supply forecasts in western river basins. NRCS and ARS will jointly prepare an annual work plan listing research activities to be carried out that year. This agreement was established in support of objective 3 of the in-house project, the goals being to expand integrated snow hydrology modeling to larger scales, coupling to belowground processes, including wind effects on precipitation input, and helping to incorporate snow-related processes into ARS watershed and management simulation models.
