Research Project:
EVALUATION OF SUGARCANE CULTIVARS FOR YIELD PERIMETERS AND DISEASE SUSCEPTIBILITY IN TEXAS
Location: Sugarcane Production Research
|
2012 Annual Report
1a.Objectives (from AD-416):
Develop and evaluate sugarcane clones with high sucrose-yielding disease-resistance potential for sugar production.
1b.Approach (from AD-416):
Sugarcane seedlings will be produced from high sucrose-yielding disease-resistant parental clones with wide adaptation. Superior clones with high vigor, growth and freedom from diseases will be selected and established in yield trials to identify superior clones.
3.Progress Report:
This research relates to inhouse objective 2: Develop better agronomic practices for the Florida sugarcane industry. There were 101 CP-sugarcane clones established in Texas from seedcane sent from the USDA-ARS Sugarcane Field Station, Canal Point, Florida. These clones will be placed in replicated yield trials when sufficient seedcane is available.
