Research Project:
Resistance Management of Pyrethroids Used for Vector Control
Location: Invasive Insect Biocontrol and Behavior Laboratory
Project Number: 1245-32000-007-17
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Feb 01, 2013
End Date: Sep 30, 2013
Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research project is to first evaluate candidate compounds for their CYP-450 inhibition efficacy in important disease vectors like mosquitoes. The second is to identify novel compounds that synergize efficacy of pyrethroids in resistance population of mosquitoes/sand flies etc. The Cooperator has expertise IIBBL does not have in utilizing molecular tools and pyrethroid resistance colony of important vectors.
Approach:
The general approach of this cooperative research project will allow ARS to acquire the basic knowledge of CYP-450 inhibitors against mosquitoes and bed bugs. This information will be used by both parties to jointly discover and develop chemicals for suppressing pyrethroid resistance in disease vectors. The Cooperator will provide molecular biology expertise and evaluate synergism of novel compounds against pyrethroid resistant insect populations.
