1b.Approach (from AD-416):
To conduct cooperative research compatible with the Salinity Laboratory and interests of university entities.
This Agreement is a statement of general cooperation between the Salinity Laboratory and University of California and as such it relates to all objectives of all research projects at the Salinity Laboratory, including objectives of parent project 5310-61000-016-00D. In cooperation with University of California Riverside and the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture we have initiated a USDA-China Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST)- UC Riverside, Center for Agro-Ecology and Sustainability. The agreement was recently signed by USDA Under Secretary, enabling scientific exchange and Chinese government-funded visiting scientists to work at the Salinity Laboratory on problems of mutual interest. We anticipate cooperation on regional salinization, reclamation of saline soils and evaluation of management of saline waters for irrigation, among other topics. In cooperation with UC Riverside Department of Environmental Sciences, Department of Botany and Plant Sciences, and UC Riverside Experiment Station Agricultural Operations, we have proposed a research project on salinity and boron toxicity interactions on citrus, currently under consideration for funding by the Citrus Research Board. The experiment is to be conducted on Experiment Station fields.
