Research Project: PRODUCTION AND EFFICACY TESTING OF BM86-TEXAS ANTI-TICK VACCINE FOR THE CATTLE FEVER TICK ERADICATION PROGRAM

1a.Objectives (from AD-416):
Expedite production and laboratory efficacy testing of a novel anti-tick vaccine formulation as a tool for integrated approaches to keep the U.S. free of cattle fever ticks.


1b.Approach (from AD-416):
In cooperation with the Texas Department of Agriculture and the Texas Animal Health Commission, funds from a sub-grant to the ARS will be used to accelerate a discovery research project for production and laboratory efficacy testing of Bm86-Texas anti-tick vaccine formulation as a tool for integrated approaches to keep the U.S. free of cattle fever ticks.


3.Progress Report:

Sufficient antigen to conduct a 200-head cattle field study was produced, and a trial in white-tailed deer was initiated. This antigen was made available to the Texas Department of Agriculture and Texas Animal Health Commission for use as needed.
