Objective:
A mission critical component of nutrition monitoring conducted by USDA is the collection, processing, and dissemination of nationwide dietary survey data in two-year updates in collaboration with the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). The work includes the collection of 24-hour dietary recalls by trained dietary interviewers and coding of dietary recall data by coders on a sample of approximately 5,000 individuals each year. This agreement provides partial resources for the collection and coding of dietary recalls for What We Eat In America, NHANES.

Approach:
The work includes the collection of 24-hour dietary recalls by trained dietary interviewers and coding of dietary recall data by coders on a sample of approximately 5,000 individuals each year. The data collection for Day 1 is conducted across the country at various sampling locations in the NHANES Mobile Examination Centers. For Day 2, data collection is conducted by telephone at the Westat Telephone Center located in Rockville, MD. Coding of the dietary recall data is conducted at the Westat office located in Rockville, MD.
