1a.Objectives (from AD-416):
The major objective of this cooperative research project is to develop potato germplasm with resistance to multiple pathotypes of the golden nematode.
1b.Approach (from AD-416):
1) Crosses of potato clones will be made to generate populations that are segregating for resistance to multiple pathotypes of the golden nematode and improved horticultural and marketing characteristics..
2)Potato clones will be evaluated for resistance to golden nematode pathotypes of Ro1 and Ro2.
The Cornell breeding program provided 654 potato clones for evaluation of GN resistance. Among the 295 clones screened for Ro1 resistance, 247 were found to be resistant to Ro1. We also screened the rest of the clones for Ro2 resistance and many of which were found to be resistant to Ro2. These resistant clones will be further evaluated and are candidate clones that may be either used for crosses in the breeding process or released as named varieties in the near future.
