Research Project: USING NATIONAL AND FIELD COLLECTED INFORMATION TO REPORT ON THE CONDITION OF PUBLIC LANDS

Location: Range Management Research

2012 Annual Report

1a.Objectives (from AD-416):
Provide the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) with support for coordinating the statistical analysis and reporting of the condition of public lands in order to ensure that data from national sources collected through national inventories, including the NRCS NRI, is analyzed and made available in a timely manner, and that BLM will be able to use the reported data as soon as possible after the data is analyzed.

1b.Approach (from AD-416):
ARS will lead and coordinate work of a diverse team of experts on data management, statistical analysis, and data delivery, together with BLM and NRCS managers and professionals. It will complete necessary statistical analyses, in coordination with NRCS and its contractors and other collaborators. It will develop novel natural resource data analysis and data and information delivery systems.

3.Progress Report:

During FY 2012, we organized, hosted and led a workshop, and co-organized and led a meeting of a diverse team of experts from NRCS, BLM, and Iowa State University. These meetings resulted in the development and prioritization of specific objectives to be addressed over the term of this project.
