Research Project: CHARACTERIZATION OF PEPPER MILD MOTTLE VIRUS ERADICATED CAPSICUM BACCATUM ACCESSIONS

Location: Plant Genetic Resources Conservation Unit

Project Number: 6607-21000-010-25
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 01, 2011
End Date: Sep 30, 2012

Objective:
1. Regenerate genebank accessions of Capsicum baccatum (and selections from these accessions) to produce PMMoV-free seed, and collect morphometric data. 2. Provide seed and data to USDA/ARS.

Approach:
Approximately 180 lines (genebank accessions and selections) of Capsicum baccatum, previously treated to eliminate PMMoV, will be grown in the field and seed and morphological data collected. Single plant selections will be made in the field and seed from these harvested and further increased in the greenhouse. Both morphometric (descriptor) data and increased seed (free of PMMoV) will be provided to the USDA/ARS Capsicum genebank.
