Research Project: NEW MANAGEMENT TOOLS FOR FUSARIUM HEAD BLIGHT Project Number: 0500-00053-003-32
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: Apr 13, 2011
End Date: Apr 12, 2013

Objective:
Project 1: Identify small peptides with significant antifungal activity that can be produced inexpensively via fermentation and applied as protective sprays. Project 2: Conduct a field test of biological agends for control of FHB on winter wheat in Nebraska as part of the USWBSI Uniform Trials.

Approach:
Project 1: Assess the potential for combining inhibitory peptides for enhanced control of infection and disease development; and assess the efficacy of inhibitory peptides through cycles of wet and dry conditions and in relation to stage of floral development. Project 2: Evaluate biological control agents at two sites using standardized methods for applying the BC agends for determining disease control efficacy; compile data and report collective results.
