1a.Objectives (from AD-416):
Collect and rear emerald ash borers from infested ash logs in Maryland.
1b.Approach (from AD-416):
Emerald ash borer-infested ash logs and/or other plant will be identified, collected, stored, and incubated to produce adults of emerald ash borers for shipment to USDA ARS Beneficial Insects Introduction Research Units.
While ARS assisted in development of sampling procedures to assess the establishment and impact of released biocontrol agents against EAB populations in Maryland, the Maryland Department of Agriculture has collected and stored approximately 960 cubic feet of EAB infested ash logs from 63 trees from 4 counties in Maryland, and produced approximately 4,431 (including 886 wild collected) adult beetles that was shipped to the ARS Beneficial Insect Introduction Research Unit for use in EAB parasitoid rearing and research project. To date, 180 barrels have been loaded with the infested material.
