Research Project: IMPACT OF DEGRADED WATERS ON SOIL PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES

Location: Water Reuse and Remediation

2011 Annual Report

1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
To develop information on the impact on soil physical and chemical properties when using degraded and saline waters for irrigation and determine predictive relationships based on statistical analysis of lab and field experiments.

1b.Approach (from AD-416)
To conduct laboratory and field research as needed to determine the impact of degraded and saline waters on physical and chemical properties of California soils.

3.Progress Report

This project was just initiated within the past two weeks so there is no progress to report. Cooperators have discussed the objectives and initiated planning. Communication has been done with several site visits, emails and telephone conversations. This research will contribute to develop new guidelines related to the use of treated municipal waste waters for irrigation, helping meet NP211 program and CRIS Objective 1, Develop new knowledge and guidelines related to salinity and ion concentrations for the sustained use of degraded waters for irrigation, in-house associated project 5310-61000-013-00D, Salinity and Trace Elements Associated with Water Reuse in Irrigated Systems: Processes, Sampling Protocols, and Site-Specific Management.
