Development dual avian vaccines against Newcastle disease virus and avian influenza using canarypox virus as a live vector. This proposal, which complements, but does not overlap our ongoing research, will involve the creation and exchange of plasmids containing Newcastle disease virus and avian influenza genes and the creation of vaccine viruses based on canarypox.
1. Cloning of genes of a Newcastle disease virus and an avian influenza corresponding to current circulating Mexican viruses.
2. Modification of the cleavage site of the fusion protein of Newcastle disease virus in a plasmid by site directed mutagenesis and cloning of the hemagglutinin gene of low pathogenic avian influenza.
3. Construction of the recombinant canarypox vaccines.
4. Evaluation of the canarypox vaccines.
