1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
1) Evaluate strobulurins, triazoles, and combinations of fungicides for their activity against Aspergillus flavus and their effect on aflatoxin production.
2) Determine optimum rate and timeing of application of Afla-Guard.
3) Fungicide and Afla-Guard interations.
1b.Approach (from AD-416)
Evaluate the efficacy of Afla-Guard in at least five Mississippi Delta field sites, at three application rates and several application times, on side-by-side irrigated and non-irrigated corn. In laboratory and field trials the effect of fungicides on A. flavus will be measured.
We tested the Alfa-Guard final product which was obtained from Syngenta for biological control of aflatoxins in corn in 5 different locations in the Mississippi Delta in 2011. Two rates were tested under field conditions: on two private farms, on a Monsanto experimental field, and on the ARS experimental station in Stoneville, MS. Alfa-Guard was tested for compatibility with commercially available fungicides labeled for use in corn. The data has not yet been analyzed.
