Research Project:
INTEGRATED MONITORING AND SIMULATION OF HYDROLOGIC COMPONENTS AND SYSTEMS IN AGRICULTURAL LANDSCAPES
Location: Great Plains Agroclimate and Natural Resources Research Unit
Project Number: 6218-13000-011-11
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Apr 01, 2011
End Date: Mar 31, 2016
Objective:
To develop and implement a database management system (DBMS) and applications for the ARS-USDA Grazinglands Research Laboratory (GRL) to store, provide data quality assessment and visualization tools, and serve as the interface for STEWARDS, GRACENET, and MESONET data migration for the purpose of enhancing research capabilities in natural resource conservation.
Approach:
Skills in database design and implementation, data manipulation and visualization, and statistics will be used for this project. Knowledge of Delphi and Java programming will be used to develop supporting applications. A structured query language (SQL) database will be designed and implemented under PostgreeSQL or MySQL. This DBMS should be able to allow for data migration with STEWARDS and GRACENET, and from MICRONET. Other source of data such as USGS stream gage data may be incorporated in future developments. Windows and Web applications will be implemented as the DBMS interface to provide data quality assessment tools and data visualization, and to assist with data input and migration.
