Research Project: DROUGHT CALCULATOR IMPROVEMENT

Location: Agricultural Systems Research Unit

Project Number: 5402-61660-006-13
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 01, 2011
End Date: Jun 30, 2012

Objective:
The objectives of this cooperative research are testing these hypotheses: 1) that spring time temperatures have an effect on forage growth potential later in the season and, 2) combining spring temperature with monthly precipitation will improve the prediction accuracy of decision support tool being developed by ARS.

Approach:
High and low spring time temperatures will be analyzed statistically to determine if temperature has an effect on forage growth potential. Then spring time temperature and monthly precipitation will be combined to determine if the two weather variables improve prediction accuracy of a simple decision support tool.
