Research Project: TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER FOR DEVELOPING SUSTAINABLE VINEYARD WATER MANAGEMENT

Location: Water Management Research

2011 Annual Report

1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
Provide technology transfer for project determination of sustainable vineyard water management practices for limited and impaired water supplies.

1b.Approach (from AD-416)
The objectives will be met with the publication of newesletters, Extension Bulletins; Web based publications, revision of extension publications.

3.Progress Report

While no formal extension and outreach events were planned to occur prior to the summer of 2011, significant progress has been made in delivering project-related information to the target grower community. Presentations related to the project were given at the UC Davis Current Topics in Vineyard Research Conference in February 2011, and also at the Western Nutrient Management Conference in Reno, NV in March 2011. Communications have been initiated to begin adding project-related material to the extension website. Lastly, the goal to update the older UC publications related to soil salinity management in vineyards has made progress through the initiation of an effort to write a new UC Winegrape Production Manual, which will include this updated information. In addition to the continuation of the above events, the project team plans to hold an informal extension “tailgate” meeting for Paso Robles area growers in the summer of 2012 per the proposed extension plan in 2011/2012. The lead scientist communicates regularly with investigator by email, conferences calls and annual meetings.
