Research Project: TECHNICAL COOPERATION IN THE FIELD OF WATER RESOURCES
2011 Annual Report


1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
To establish an agreement between USDA ARS and the National Institute of Soil, Irrigation and Drainage, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development/People's Democratic Republic of Algeria to facilitate dialogue and information sharing in the field of water resources, irrigation and soil protection.


1b.Approach (from AD-416)
This agreement establishes the mutual interest of the USDA Agricultural Research Service and the National Institute of Soil, Irrigation and Drainage, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development/People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, in conducting mutually beneficial research on use and protection of water resources.


3.Progress Report

In January 2011, representatives from ARS visited Algeria and met with representatives of the Algerian government, including INSID, to establish priorities for cooperative research and identify potential research projects. In August 2011, the government of Algeria provided to ARS several proposals for joint research which could be included under this agreement. ARS is in the process of reviewing those proposals to identify those which are of greatest mutual interest and could be supported.
