2013 Annual Report


1a.Objectives (from AD-416):
Objective 1: Develop control measures for weeds in vegetables, fruits, and specialty crops. Objective 2: Determine herbicide residues in harvested product.


1b.Approach (from AD-416):
Herbicides alone or in combination with cultural and mechanical methods will be evaluated under field conditions and percent weed control by species, crop injury and crop yield will be determined. Plant samples will be collected for determination of herbicide residues.


3.Progress Report:
As part of an ongoing objective, research was conducted to assess the value of selected herbicides and collect data on use for minor crops. Experiments were conducted on herbicides for minor crops under a specific cooperative agreement with Michigan State University. Twenty-five projects were initiated in FY12 and research continued in FY13, 23 GLP/performance studies and 2 efficacy/crop safety studies. Projects included: penoxsulam+oxyfluorfen on stone fruits, clomazone and QGU42 on asparagus, fluopicolide on snap bean, quinoxyfen on and V-10208 on cucumber, BYI 02960, fenpyroximate, pendimethalin, and quinclorac on caneberry, hexazinone on blueberry, mesotrione on grape, tolfenpyrad and fluazifop on strawberry, and acetamiprid on sweet corn. Data were collected on crop injury or crop yield; as needed, residue samples were collected for pesticide residue analysis. Completed field notebooks were submitted to the IR-4 headquarters to support the petition processes for label registration of the herbicides on minor use crops.
