Research Project: Memorandum of Understanding: Promote Animal Health Initiatives with Iowa State University
2012 Annual Report


1a.Objectives (from AD-416):
The objective is to establish a formal written commitment (memorandum of understanding) between Iowa State University (ISU) and the National Animal Disease Center (NADC) to develop joint initiatives of common strategic interest in the areas of microbial ecology in food and agriculture; animal health in domestic and livestock species; and biotechnology development and bioinformatics.


1b.Approach (from AD-416):
NADC and ISU will identify expert staff to develop joint research projects in the areas of microbial ecology in food and agriculture; animal health in domestic and livestock species; and biotechnology development and bioinformatics.


3.Progress Report:

Sequencing service has been performed for the ARS and ISU user community. A joint NADC and ISU bioinformatics service and research project to analyze concurrent meta-genomic and meta-transcriptomic sequence datasets generated from swine intestinal microbial communities will commence in quarter four of FY12 and continue into FY13.
