Research Project: PLANT AND SOIL ASSOCIATED-MICROBIAL DATABASE ENHANCEMENT

Location: Range Management Research

Project Number: 6235-11210-006-90
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 10, 2010
End Date: Jun 09, 2011

Objective:
To enhance database tools for microbial monitoring and assessment data collection, analysis, storage, and dissemination.

Approach:
Existing database for managing microbial isolates, sample sources, clones, and sequences produced resulting from investigations of plant-microbe-interactions will be expanded to include tables and entry forms for new data types resulting from pyrosequencing, and new studies including soil microbial diversity. Query forms will be generated to streamline data extraction and analysis. The cooperator has the database development skills required for the project and has extensive experience working with related projects at this and other sites involved in environmental research. The ARS will be investing heavily in high throughout pyrosequencing analysis of plant associated microbes and is in need of these database tools to streamline the analysis of resulting data.
