Research Project: ALLELIC CHARACTERIZATION OF THE MDACS3A GENE IN THE MALUS CORE COLLECTION FOR LONG SHELF LIFE APPLES

Location: Plant Genetic Resources

Project Number: 1910-21000-023-07
Project Type: General Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 01, 2011
End Date: Aug 31, 2012

Objective:
To facilitate the development of long shelf life of apples by systematically characterizing the Malus core collection with the allelotypes of MdaCS3a.

Approach:
Develop allele specific markers for the transcriptionally null allele Mdacs3a. Develop allele specific markers for the functionally null allele MdACS3a-G289V. Perform allelic characterization of the Malus core collection using the markers developed in objective 1 and 2. Evaluation of the Malus core collection for their fruit shelf life and ethylene production.
