The Participants recognize that cooperation is a matter of working together toward common goals of mutual interest, mutual understanding and efficient administration of cooperative programs. Nothing in this broad understanding is to be construed as interfering in any way with the basic responsibilities and authority of either Participant for independent action.
The purpose of this MOU is to strengthen the collaborations between the Participants in areas of mutual interest, which may include crop and animal production and protection, agricultural utilization and bioenergy, and sustainable agriculture, through cooperative research programs and exchanges. To this end, the Participants intend jointly to explore and coordinate research activities of mutual interest which should be implemented by mutual understanding and in conformity with the regulations and policies of both Participants.

This MOU was established with the American Farm School in Thessaloniki, Greece, to provide the scientist at our Greek substation with laboratory and office space, facilitating foreign exploration and field work on both insect and weed targets in Greece, the Balkans and the neighboring region. Ongoing research conducted at the facility includes surveys for natural enemies of the weeds silverleaf nightshade, salsola, and Canada thistle, and the insect pests vine mealybug, European grapevine moth, diamondback moth, and olive fruit fly. During FY2012, new EBCL project activity was initiated at AFS for research on sandflies, mosquitoes and mosquito management in northern Greece under the direction of a postdoctoral scientist working with EBCL. The new research falls under NP 104 – Veterinary, Medical and Urban Entomology.
