1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
Create atomistic and coarse-grain models of cotton fiber and fabrics with water and simulate motion of water.
1b.Approach (from AD-416)
Models of cellulose crystals developed at SRRC will be forwarded to the cooperators who will modify them or create other similar models to mimic cotton fibers or fabrics. These models will then be subjected to molecular dynamics simulations with water present.
Progress is detailed in the individual Specific Cooperative Agreement (SCA) reports that apply (6435-44000-076-2S [Tulane University]) and (6435-44000-076-3S [University of Georgia]). Students from both universities prepared and made oral presentations at the 2010 Southeast-Southwest Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society in New Orleans, and the student from the University of Georgia presented at the Beltwide Cotton Conferences in Atlanta.
At SRRC, support for these projects consists of interactions with the students and serving on the Dissertation Committee of the Tulane student.
The methods used to monitor activities for this agreement were technical visits/e-mails/interactions, presentations at scientific meetings, and publications.
