1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
We will acquire the basic knowledge of Agrostis genome relationships based on chromosome pairing and banding studies to differentiate the genomes of cultivated members of this genus. This information will be used by ARS to develop through classical breeding Agrostis germplasm with enhanced sustainability. The COOPERATOR will evaluate selections for possible germplasm release.
1b.Approach (from AD-416)
Investigate the genome pairing and banding of cultivated Agrostis species.
The objective of this research is to determine chromosome counts in select Agrostis accessions. Twenty-five accessions of Agrostis from the national germplasm system that appear to be diploids based on flow cytometry are being analyzed with microscope-based chromosome counts to confirm their diploid status. Progress on this project was monitored through emails and in-person meetings at Beltsville.
