2011 Annual Report 1a.Objectives (from AD-416) The objectives of this cooperative research project are to develop more profitable approaches to ruminant livestock production, provide educational opportunities in livestock and forage management for students enrolled in an agricultural undergraduate program, and expose students to science and agricultural research. 1b.Approach (from AD-416) New approaches to forage livestock systems will be envisioned and jointly evaluated in laboratory and field research. ARS will facilitate educational opportunities in livestock and forage management for students enrolled in an agricultural undergraduate program by lending expertise and sharing access to facilities and land, and exposing students to science and agricultural research. 3.Progress Report Two students have completed an internship and presented posters at the Oklahoma Research Day. A total of eight students worked under this agreement under the technical supervision of ARS employees and participated in conduct of forage and animal science research with objectives of maximizing use of forage in sustainable beef production. Students gained experience in animal management as well as proper conduct and implementation of research, data collection, and data management. The ADODR monitors the activities of this agreement through email, meetings, and telephone calls.
