1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
Identification and utilization of new fast acting insecticides in public health is in urgent need to curb arthropod vector born diseases. We have developed a number of novel chemical entities for testing. Testing these novel compounds for product development, along with their primary toxicological evaluation through Sixpack study is the essential first step. Each sixpack study requires 90-100 grams of compound. Seek to obtain the chemically pure compounds and then to evaluate their toxicological profiles.

Develop large scale synthesis of complex chemical entities to produce the compounds and then evaluate their toxicological profile.
In FY2011, Chemveda performed toxicological screening (“six pack” study) of four novel compounds developed by ARS. Each candidate compound was synthesized in 100 grams quantities, so that it can be further screened against blood feeding mosquitoes in field conditions after toxicological evaluations. The next step is to evaluate new classes of mosquito repellent and repeat the sequence of the generating and validating model. The project team, comprising synthetic/computational chemists, medical entomologist and industrial partners has conference calls on regular basis to discuss progress as well as future directions.
