Research Project: ANALYSIS OF STEROID COMPOSITION OF CHANNEL CATFISH

Location: Catfish Genetics Research

2010 Annual Report

1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
This research will identify steroid profiles for fish used in spawning efforts. The goal is to identify patterns and concentrations of steroids in these fish to provide better management tools to producers.

1b.Approach (from AD-416)
Sera samples from fish will be collected and the steroid profiles compared. Reproductive success will be measured and correlated to steroid profiles.

3.Progress Report

A comparison of actual accomplishments with the goals and objectives established for the period, the findings of the investigator, or both. Whenever appropriate and the output of programs or projects can be readily quantified, such quantitative data should be related to cost data. The goals for the reporting period include the analysis of fish samples for steroid content. This work is ongoing. Samples from Auburn and Mississippi are being examined for steroidal compostition. The ADODR monitors this project through site visits, telecoms and e-mails to the collaborator, and through ann. reports from the collaborator.
