Research Project:
BIOAVAILABILITY OF ENCAPSULATED PTEROSTILBENE
Location: Natural Products Utilization Research
|
2011 Annual Report
1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
Determine the bioavailability of encapsulated pterostilbene using encapsulation technology developed by Food Science Australia.
1b.Approach (from AD-416)
Pterostilbene will be synthesized then encapsulated. Encapsulated pterostilbene will be administered to mice/rats. Levels of pterostilbene in mouse/rat serum will be determined.
3.Progress Report
The objective of the project is to determine the bioavailability of encapsulated pterostilbene using encapsulation technology developed by Food Science and Technology, Australia. Administration of encapsulated pterostilbene to animals was to be performed by collaborator at Rutgers. However, due to budget constraints, the collaborator at Rutgers was unable to perform feeding experiments. Feeding of encapsulated pterostilbene was instead done by collaborators at University of Mississippi Department of Pharmacology. Analysis of serum data indicated the encapsulation method did not improve the bioavailability of pterostilbene. Methods used for monitoring or discussing research progress were by telephone calls, email, and laboratory visits.
