Research Project: WEED CONTROL FOR MINOR AND SPECIALTY CROPS

Location: Global Change and Photosynthesis Research Unit

2010 Annual Report

1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
Conduct trials necessary for registration of modern herbicides for safe use in minor and specialty crops.

1b.Approach (from AD-416)
Based on priority projects established by IR-4 and USDA, evaluate herbicides alone or in combination with other management methods to support registration on minor and specialty crops. Data will include determination of weed control efficacy and/or collection of plant samples for chemical residue determination.

3.Progress Report

Residue experiments were conducted on clethodim, flumioxazin, napromide, quinclorac, simazine, sulfentrazone with researchers at Michigan State University. An efficacy and crop tolerance trial was also conducted. Completed field notebooks were submitted to the IR-4 headquarters to support the petition processes for label registration of the herbicides on apple, cherry, caneberry, basil, rhubarb, and green onion. This research will continue under project number 0500-00007-091-01S. Monitoring activities included discussion of project plans and accomplishments with cooperator via email correspondence.
