1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
The objectives of this research are to conduct analysis on castor germplasm and crop performance, to develop high oil/low toxin cultivars and to develop clean technologies for seed oil processing and seed meal de-toxification.
1b.Approach (from AD-416)
The Nankai University Engineering Research Center For Castor (NKERCC) and USDA-ARS will exchange castor germplasm samples to expand cultivars. USDA-ARS will perform non-destructive oil content analysis for germplasms. High oil content seeds will be evaluated by NKERCC for filed performance. The NKERCC will develop clean technologies for seed oil and meal processing. The USDA-ARS will develop technologies to evaluate qualities of seed oil and meal after the processing. NKERCC and USDA-ARS will co-apply grants under Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development & Climate (http://www.asiapacificpartnership.org) and other sources. Documents Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement with Nankai University Engineering Research Center for Castor (NKERCC), Tianjing, China.
The goal of this project is to develop enhanced castor cultivars with high oil/low toxin and to develop clean technologies for seed oil processing. The agreement was in support of Objective 1.B.2 of the in-house project.
Research is underway to develop technology for analysing crop performance and for oil processing. The Agreement was monitored by emails, phone calls and discussions. It includes site visits and meetings from both parties (March, 2010 to Albany lab and July, 2010 to Nankai lab).
