Research Project: VITAMIN AND MINERAL SUPPLEMENTATION IN CHILDREN

2009 Annual Report


1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
In a collaborative effort to evaluate the effects of a micronutrient supplement in children, we will provide consultation in the protocol development for the collection of blood from 300 children at baseline and 6 months post feeding and perform the assays of nutritional status biomarkers.


1b.Approach (from AD-416)
We will analyze blood for zinc, B12, folate, retinol and serum transferrin receptors. If more serum is available, the following biomarkers will be performed in the following order: vitamin D, riboflavin and CRP. Documents Trust wioth Mathile Institute. Log 37849.


3.Progress Report

To provide consultation in the protocol development for the collection of blood from 300 children at baseline and 6 months post feeding and to perform assays of the following biomarkers: zinc, B12, folate, retinol, and serum transferrin receptors. Sample analysis is in progress.
