Research Project: HEALTHY EATING AND LIFESTYLE FOR TOTAL HEALTH (HEALTH)

Location: Obesity and Metabolism Research Unit

Project Number: 5306-51530-019-15
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Oct 01, 2008
End Date: Mar 31, 2012

Objective:
HEALTH is a multi-center study with two broad objectives: (1) to construct culturally appropriate surveys to assess Dietary Guideline adherence barriers and facilitators in children and adults of major U.S. racial/ethnic groups and (2) to examine barriers and facilitators of Dietary Guideline adherence and other factors as they relate to dietary behavior and body mass index (BMI) by administering the U.S. population located in 7 geographic locations served by USDA Human Nutrition Research sites.

Approach:
Objective 1 will enlist focus groups (Nominal Group Technique) and structured cognitive interviews to elicit key factors that inhibit (barriers) and motivate (facilitators) Dietary Guideline adherence. This work will serve to develop a "Barriers and Facilitators" survey instrument, which will be applied to Objective 2 of the research. Objective 2 will be conducted by administering the survey to cross-sections of the U.S. population located in 7 geographic locations served by USDA Human Nutrition Research sites. Documents Trust with Baylor College of Medicine. Log 37829. Formerly 5306-51530-016-19R (8/09).
