2011 Annual Report 1a.Objectives (from AD-416) To develop and coordinate uniform evaluation trials of turfgrass varieties and promising selections in the United States and Canada. 1b.Approach (from AD-416) Coordinated national tests to increase the cost effectiveness of cultivar evaluations by reducing the total amount of time and resources necessary to obtain the information needed on performance of cultivars. 3.Progress Report The National Turfgrass Evaluation Program evaluated trials of Kentucky bluegrass, tall fescue, fineleaf fescue, bentgrass, bermudagrass, zoysiagrass, seashore paspalum, St. Augustinegrass and cool-season drought in 2010. A new trial of perennial ryegrass was established at 27 locations in 2010. Data collected in 2010 was submitted, statistically analyzed and published on all trials in spring 2011. Data collected included turfgrass quality ratings for each month of the growing season, color, leaf texture, density, ratings of tolerance to stresses such as drought and cold, along with evaluations of tolerance to various diseases. Progress was monitored through either on-site visits or phone/email communications with trial cooperators.
