Research Project: DEVELOPMENT AND EVALUATION OF DIGITAL THERMOMETER/RELATIVE HUMIDITY RECORDING DEVICES WITH REMOTE DOWNLOADING CAPABILITIES

Location: Mosquito and Fly Research Unit

2009 Annual Report

1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
To develop and evaluate digital thermometer/relative humidity recording devices which have remote downloading capabilities and software adapted for predicting selected insect breeding cycles.

3.Progress Report

This project relates to the in-house project Objective 4: Design and validate automated, remote surveillance systems that incorporate selective trapping and global information technology to direct control efforts. Collaborators met to discuss plans for conducting research on the development of new devices for recording temperature and relative humidity that can be remotely downloaded from the field into laboratory or office settings. The cooperator agreed to maintain close communications with the Mosquito & Fly Research Unit (MFRU) so that as research progress is made it can be shared with MFRU entomologists and monitored on a timely basis. As progress is made, MFRU will be prepared to evaluate prototype devices.

Progress was monitored by telephone conferences, e-mail messages, and meetings.
