Research Project: Physical, Chemical, and Adsorptive Properties of Ash/biochar from A Gasification System

Location: Commodity Utilization Research

2010 Annual Report

1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
The objective of this research is to conduct chemical and physical analysis on the affects in water filtration of various qualities of ash/biochar from the gasification system.

1b.Approach (from AD-416)
Coaltec will provide various samples of ash/biochar to the USDA-ARS for analysis. These samples will be produced by varying fuel blends and operating parameters in the gasifier. The USDA-ARS will determine key physical and chemical properties of these samples.

3.Progress Report

Under this agreement, Coaltec is going to provide various samples of ash/biochar from various gasifiers to the United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service for analysis. Samples will be received in early fall 2010 from the collaborator and studies will begin at that time. Both parties have been in communication via phone and email. The delay with the study was due to procuring funding for the project.
